Johanneshof Cellars Pinot Gris Trocken/Dry 2007

The notes printed on the back label when this wine was released say "In this wine a heady bouquet of guava and violets lead to soft and mouthfilling stonefruit and pear characters. Drink now to 2010." In 2015 the flavours in the wine have evolved beautifully. Rich, luscious flavours of ripe mandarin, yellow melon, a touch of green sage herb, softly spiced sweet pears are all layered in the palate. The finish is long and dry. I think owners Edel Everling and Warwick Foley underestimated the cellaring potential of this wine. Stored in stable conditions at between 14 and 16 degrees celcius this is another example of how well made, average cost wines can aged beautifully.
