Kahurangi Estate Syrah 2013

This is an excellent example of cool climate Syrah. Made from fruit grown in Nelson, a region that it is notoriously difficult to fully ripen full-bodied red wines, this proves great Syrah can be grown there. 2013 was an outstanding vintage in the Nelson region and this resulted in outstanding quality fruit being delivered to the winery from the Waimea Plains vineyard. Deep and rich in colour and texture, without being jammy, it is bright and fresh with the big, brash white pepper characters added spice to the ripe black plum flavours. Simply outstanding with a nice piece of medium rare beef rib eye from the barbecue.
