Greenhough Hope Vineyard ‘Esperance’ Chardonnay 2012
Elegant and balanced. This wine is Andrew Greenhough's first attempt at a Chablis style chardonnay and I think it is a roaring success. Made in stainless steel tanks and aged in old oak barrels it has a refined texture that is right on the edge of being a touch sharp but the taut balance between fruit and structure is perfect. The chalky mineral characters and layers of flavour that hang off a ripe acid backbone this is an outstanding wine. If this is a first attempt I can't wait to see what later vintages deliver. Made in very limited quantities you will need to be quick if you want some.
