Bannock Brae ‘Marlene’s Gruner 2015
Lush nectarine-like stone fruit flavours with a burst of white pepper and quince spice, gentle green capsicum acidity characters in the long finish ensure the finish is satisfyingly long and juicy. This is perfect with freshly grilled white fish.
The winery release notes say:
Origin Bannockburn, Central Otago, New Zealand
Climate Primarily continental, dry, with hot summers, extended warm autumn and cold winters
Aspect Northwest facing slope, consisting of gravelly/sandy “loess”.
Varietal 100% Grüner Veltliner
Vinification Our 5th vintage of Grüner Veltliner is truly showcasing the unique character of our small, closely planted hillside block. The handharvested fruit is chilled overnight, foot-stomped & then “whole bunch” pressed the next morning. The juice is racked with light solids to older French oak barriques and fermented at ambient temperature to dryness. The wine remains in barrel retained on fermentation less with some lees stirring to add complexity and roundness to the palate. The winemaker is Jen Parr.
Tasting Notes Peach and nectarine notes. trademark hints of white pepper and spice, reminiscent of its Austrian origins. Great with Asian flavours. F
