Summerset in the Sun Wine & Food Tasting

I recently took part in a food and wine tasting at Summerset in the Sun, Stoke, Nelson.

Ian from Rust Kitchen launched a new range of delicious frozen meals (My Kitchen Table) and local Nelson winemakers donated wines to taste with the food. About 70 residents from the village came along and enjoyed both the food and wines.

Here’s a summary of the wines that residents tasted and where you can buy them.

Seifried Gewurztraminer 2024 – $96 for case of six bottles ($16 per bottle) – special offer on-line www.seifried.co.nz

Anchorage Yacht Sauvignon Blanc 2023 – $18 on-line www.anchoragefamilyestate.co.nz

Available at most supermarkets and liquor stores

Anchorage Pinot Noir Rose 2024 – $18 per bottle less a 10% discount running during winter.

If the residents want to put an order together of a minimum 12 bottles (can be mixed), Anchorage will be happy to sell to you at trade. That would be $13.80 including GST and delivery.

Everyday retail pricing is $18.99 and is often on promotion at supermarkets.

Email chris@motuekawine.nz to take advantage of this special pricing.

Kahurangi Estate Nelson Pinot Noir 2023 – $19.00 on-line and available at most supermarkets and liquor stores www.kahurangiwine.com

Tall Poppy Shiraz 2021 – $12 on-line or up to $16 at most supermarkets and liquor stores www.bringabottle.co.nz

Richmond Plains Blanc de Noir 2022 – $25.99 on-line www.richmondplains.co.nz

Sheild Chardonnay 2022 – on-line (six pack$156 including delivery – $26 per bottle) www.sheildwine.nz

I have been writing a regular wine column for The Nelson Mail newspaper since 2000.

Unfortunately the column space is not big enough to include my thoughts on all of the many wines I taste. Hopefully this blog will fix that. It also gives me somewhere to archive the many columns I write. I will also include some favourite recipes from my dearly beloved who loves cooking and of course because wine and food simply go together. I will also point you in the direction of upcoming events and websites I think are great. Enjoy, Neil
